News & Events 2009

Category: Uncategorized – admin – 8:30 pm

It’s a frigid day here in New Hampshire! What a perfect time to dream about floating on a raft with the summer sun keeping you warm and the sound of laughter echoing as the kids are jumping off the dock, all the while meeting new friends and catching up with old ones. Of course you can’t forget to include a nice game of badminton or a walk around the Carriage Trail after dinner as the kids play kickball, basketball and finally flashlight tag! And what day would be complete without toasting marshmallows and making s’mores after dark at the lakeside fire pit?

Hello and greetings from Loch Lyme Lodge! If that brought back any sweet memories for you, you’re not alone. Dozens of families are re-discovering their love for these cabins and grounds! With the cabin improvements, new docks and float, a fantastic chef (trained at the Culinary Institute of America), and the expanded Sunday night buffet, many families are returning year after year for their annual vacation at the lodge!

You too can relive those days and start your family tradition all over again. It’s never been easier. Look for your favorite cabin or one that suits your needs, and e-mail or call us to see if it’s available for your time frame. We will be open this year from late May through Columbus Day weekend. The dining rooms are open from June 19-Labor Day. We are offering a discounted rate if you book a family reunion (5 cabins or more). Also ask about our off-season• special. If you rent 3 nights, you get a 4th night absolutely free! We can also talk to you about booking larger events, from big outdoor picnics to weddings, rehearsal dinners and group meetings! Please don’t delay. Call or write us with any questions you may have and experience the charm of Loch Lyme Lodge again.

Warm regards and Happy New Year,

Jay & Amy Kelly

For this Season

Renovations continue at the Lodge with new roofs and porches, as well as leveling and shoring up of cabins and the placement of new furniture and linens. If all goes according to plan the owners of the Lodge are planning on building a new beach at the lake in the next 2 years.

Back by popular demand, our own Faith Catlin will be holding a theatre camp this year. It’s scheduled for the week of July 13-17 from 9am -12 noon with a made to order performance on Friday at 5pm. Together we’ll transform the barn into a magical space! It’s open to all ages with no prior experience necessary. The cost is $150 per person and you can contact Faith directly at 603-795-4103 or email Faith.Catlin@valley.net to register.

We’re also happy to welcome back Joe Applegate tennis instructor extraordinaire who will be teaching tennis classes the week of July 20-24 from 10am-3pm. Please look for a sign-up sheet when you arrive. Joe is a charming and compassionate teacher who is looking forward to sharing his love of this great sport. There is no charge and any skill level is welcome.

What about a music series? We are trying to create a tradition of having music each Sunday evening. To that end we’re working with many local groups and musicians to make this come to fruition. Last summer we did just a few of these Sunday events and they were a blast. If you are a musician and would like to book yourself into the hour-long slot, please feel free to contact us.

We’d love to hear from you with any suggestions you have for us. Or, if you want to lend your talents to leading your own workshop or class we’d be open to that too. We’re in talks with our niece (a certified yoga instructor) to see if she’d like to lead a week or two of gentle yoga classes. Mostly we’re looking for ways to enhance your experience at little or no cost.

Scenic Drive - Appalachian Trail ROUTE 10: NORTH HAVERHILL AND LYME

Category: Uncategorized – admin – 8:34 pm

While hikers along the Appalachian Trail have to struggle up and over several mountaintops, we drivers get to amble along a few miles to the west, following scenic Route 10 along the east banks of the lazy Connecticut River. Winding past pastures and cornfields, Route 10 is a nonstop pleasure to drive (or cycle); uneventful perhaps, but giving seemingly endless pastoral views framed by white rail fences, occasional farmhouses, and the voluptuous peaks that rise to the east and west. The first hamlet you reach along this part of Route 10, North Haverhill, is a real museum piece, with a necklace of distinctive colonial-era homes flanking an oval town green, and one of New Hampshire’s oldest cemeteries close by.

Further south spreads Loch Lyme, where the fine restaurant, rustic lodge, and cabins of Loch Lyme Lodge ($80 and up; 603/795-2141 or 800/423-2141) have been welcoming generations of New Englanders since 1946. Swim, sail, or float out on the small lake, which has an idyllic location between the mountains and the river. (more…)

Fishing in Lyme

Category: Fishing, Lyme – admin – 8:12 pm

Post Pond

From the center of Lyme, continue north on Route 10 past the cemetery. Post Pond is on the left after about 1 mile; you can’t miss it. The public entry point and boat launch is a left turn from the main road. This pond is loaded with trout, but they are often difficult to take because of all the natural food available to them. Try worms through minnows; deep-running shiny spoons to flies. I have had my best luck with a Gray or Black Ghost, trolled deep for the early season. As the big ones go deeper, the yellow muddler, a large black gnat, and the woolly bear or bugger on a fast sinking line have worked well. When fish are on top, try something tiny. Also try something yellow and/or brown, and make a gentle presentation.

Don’t forget to try Trout Brook, the feeder to this pond.

Kiddies Playgrounds

Category: Kids Playgrounds – admin – 9:24 pm

Ok, so you are on vacation, and the kids have been in the car for a while, so you want to let them run around a bit. If only you knew where the hell to find a playground around here. They should have a site for that shouldn’t they… whats that? they do? You can find that info here. Please update with any playgrounds you find in the region.
