Fun Things to Do!

We invite guests and community members to join us by the waterfront each Sunday from 5:30-7PM for a buffet-style dinner and live entertainment from local musicians. $30 (half-price under 14). Advance sales close each week at 5PM Saturday. BYOB. Reservations strongly preferred. Call (603)795-2141

Getting Food & Getting Fed

  • Between late June and Labor Day we serve breakfast from 8-10:30AM and lunch from 11:30AM-3PM. Ice cream is available till 4PM. Order at the kitchen service window on the side of the lodge. You can see the menu here.

  • We also serve three weekly dinners beginning at 5:30 on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday:

    • Sundays we host a buffet style dinner at the waterfront with live entertainment from local musicians and delicious food by Glenn Ferriot and Fresco Catering. Reservations are strongly preferred. Call (603)795-2141.

    • Mondays we welcome  the Green Mountain Pizza truck

    • Tuesdays we will host a cookout, catered by Glenn Ferriot of Fresco Catering. We will also have live music.

  • If you get hungry when the window is closed, the barn refrigerators have snacks, ice cream, and drinks on an honor system - just sign it to your cabin and we'll add it to your tab.

Grocery Stores
  • ​Lyme Country Store - owned and operated by the Pippin family, right in Lyme. They have groceries plus wine and beer, deli, baked goods, fresh produce, seafood and meat. There’s also an ice cream window for hard and soft serve. Open every day. (603) 795-2213.

  • Wing's Supermarkets - in Fairlee - they've got the essentials if you need to grab something to cook at the last minute. Just head north on Rt 10 to Orford, cross the bridge to Fairlee, and turn left on Rt. 5. 9 US-5, Fairlee 05045. (802) 333-9790

  • Hannaford's - in Bradford - our closest fully stocked supermarket with the best prices. They also have a VT liquor store inside. Just head north on Rt 10 to Orford, cross the bridge to Fairlee, and go north to Bradford. It’s a pretty drive. 586 Lower Plain Rd. Bradford (802) 222-3370.

  • Hanover /Lebanon Food Co-ops - Member or not, anyone can shop. Members get discounts and we use the coops for big shopping and stock up. Best variety and quality.

      • There's a smaller store at 43 Lyme Rd. (on the way back from Hanover)

    • Lebanon - 12 Centerra Parkway, Lebanon. 603-643-4889.

  • Dan & Whit's - The legendary general store featured in National Geographic. Although it looks like a small grocery/general store when you enter, it is deceptively large! You have to wind your way behind the meat counter to find the seemingly endless hidden rooms.   • Cedar Circle - Incredible local farmstand and cafe with pick your own berries and flowers, plus organic farm and education center.

  • King Arthur Flour Bakery/Café/School/Store -  The world-renowned baking company has a headquarters right next door in Norwich, VT! Visit their top-notch baking school where you can learn to make all sorts of delicious goodies. Classes range from introductory demonstrations for beginners to intensive week-long professional courses, with a wide variety of hands-on classes for adults and children. They offer discounted rates for students.

  • Left Bank Books - A wonderful used bookstore in Hanover.

  • Still North Books and Bar - Just around the corner from Left Bank Books, they also serve coffee.

  • Lucky’s Coffee Garage - Lebanon

  • Crossroads Farms - Another amazing farmstand with over 40 years of local history

Get Outside

Hiking, biking, swimming and more - the Upper Valley has tons of fun options. Here are some of our favorites.

Loch Lyme Lodge Bed & Breakfast and Wedding Venue  Trail Map

The Carriage Trail - Starting at the Lodge, this trail runs up the driveway, across a wide path through the woods, and back down past the garden. The full loop is a 20-25 minute walk at an easy pace. Printable Map »

Lyme Pinnacle Loop - Upper Valley Land Trust maintains a trail that goes to the top of The Pinnacle (named “Acorn Hill”) with broad views looking north to Smarts Mountain and even the White Mountains, and down over Post Pond. It’s a quick 7 minute drive from Loch Lyme Lodge to a large parking area at the trailhead. 2.9 mile out and back, 2 hours.  Printable Map »

Lyme Hill - A short, moderate trail with great views also in Lyme. 1.7 miles out and back, 1 hour.

Holt's Ledge - Just a few miles away, this is part of the Appalachian Trail, which stretches from Georgia to Maine. A moderate hike up to the top of the local ski area finishing at a large granite cliff. 3.4 mile out-and-back. 2-3 hours.  

Houghton Hill (Mimi's Trail) - Just a few miles further away on Thetford Hill, the area has been carefully developed to include a vast network of trails, reaching all the way to the top of the state forest nearby. This one is a great choice for all ages with rewarding views to the west and south. Many shorter options, the full route is 5.4 mile out-and-back, 2-3 hours. 

Thetford Academy X-Country Trail - A lovely, winding, 3.2 mile trail through the woods. You can do the whole thing or sections of varying lengths.

Union Village Dam - A gorgeous recreation area in Thetford, just 10 minutes away (add 20 minutes for bridge closure). Many options for short hikes and swimming holes. Vermont Bike and Brew (see below) sends some great trips through there.

The best way to explore Lyme and beyond! Rental eBikes can be picked up just 17 minutes away in Thetford, VT or delivered to the start of your route for a fee - call for availability due to bridge closure. Self-guided tours showcase scenic back roads, farm stands, general stores, covered bridges, breweries, and more. Kids 12+ get their own bike. Trailer rentals available for kids under 6. Discounts for Lodge guests on group and multi-day rentals.

Museums, Factory Tours, and Other Fun Stuff

  • The Montshire Museum of Science - A hands-on children's science museum with more than 140 exhibits relating to the natural and physical sciences, ecology, and technology. :Located on a 110-acre site near the Connecticut River, the Museum's outdoor environment is a large part of the visitor experience. 1 Montshire Rd, Norwich, VT (802) 649-2200.

  • The Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium - A natural history museum, and while you are in St. Johnsbury visit the Athenaeum, if only to admire Albert Bierstadt’s "The Domes of the Yosemite". 1302 Main St, St Johnsbury, VT (802) 748-2372

  • Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) - See rescued Golden Eagles, Peregrine Falcons, Snowy and Barred Owls, Harris and Ferruginous Hawks, and other birds up close. They offer terrific programs that appeal to any age. 6565 E Woodstock Rd, Hartford, VT (802) 359-5000

Hanover boasts many stores, mostly clustered on South Main Street and its side streets. Left Bank Books is a wonderful used bookstore on Main Street. Still North Books and Bar is around the corner. (3 Allen St)

 

The Norwich Bookstore is a very nice small full-service bookstore in Norwich, across the Connecticut River from Hanover.

 

White River Junction, VT is an old railroad town that is experiencing a resurgence. There are many options: in the Tip-Top building you’ll find a paint-your-own pottery, stores, yoga studio and more. Revolution is a great little shop with funky clothes, shoes & jewelry. 

 

Powerhouse Mall in West Lebanon off Route 12A includes an LL Bean store and an Eastern Mountain Sports store, many women’s clothing stores, Vermont Strings (for musicians) and the Bonkers Toy Store.

 

Check out the books and brochures in the Barn about Valley Quests, swimming holes and other local trips and activities. The local newspaper, The Valley News, also has a daily calendar of events. We keep a copy in the Barn and can order a daily paper for your own use if you desire.
