About Us

A Century of Family Traditions

Loch Lyme Lodge was originally a large (200 acre) farm. The main house was built in 1784, and today it houses our dining room. In 1917, the farm was sold to Alvin and Alice Thayer, and in 1923, Alice Thayer opened Loch Lyme Lodge in the historic farmhouse.

That Summer, Spafford and Carita Ackerly spent their wedding night in one of the cabins.

In 1973, they visited us for their 50th anniversary, and over 100 years later, three generations of their family are still frequent guests at Loch Lyme Lodge.

Most of the cabins were built between the 1930s and the 1970s, and while the cabins still stand on their original footprints, they have been renovated and equipped with modern comforts that were unavailable 100 years ago, like plumbing, electricity, and wifi.

Some are in the process of being remodeled so we can remain open into peak fall foliage. We are always trying to make Loch Lyme Lodge more comfortable and accessible without sacrificing our bucolic charm.

In 2006, Loch Lyme Lodge was purchased by the Pinnacle Project - a community of folks with a shared vision of community. They continue to own and operate the Lodge, while working towards building a cohousing community. You can find out more here.
